Fundraising Football Raises Fifty Thousands Pounds
The people behind Fundraising Football, a Charity football tournament held at Ewood Park recently visited the Children’s Hospital to present the Charity team with a cheque for over £53,000.
Sheldon Bean and Nigel Woolfstein, who organised Fundraising Football were joined by Claire Arnold and Craig Bancroft from Northcote at the Rovers when they handed over the cheque to Maurice Watkins, Chairman of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.
The event saw 12 teams and over 180 players taking part in the 11-a-side tournament held throughout the day. Each team, representing a Country from the world cup, was able to experience the thrill of playing on a premiership pitch and using all the facilities that were made available by Blackburn Rovers’ generosity. The final was a close fought match refereed by Premiership referee Mark Halsey with Chile eventually beating France one nil to be crowned winners to take the cup, which was awarded at a gala dinner held straight after the event.
Celebrity Chef Nigel Haworth and his company Northcote at the Rovers catered the evening gala dinner providing fine food after the day of football with over 300 guests enjoying a sumptuous four course meal. During the evening, guests were able to bid on some fabulous items in an auction to contribute further to the funds already raised.
Nigel Woolfstein, partner at Wood & Woolfstein Dental Practice in Chorlton Manchester commented: “We are truly blown away by the fantastic support we have received from Blackburn Rovers & Northcote and from everyone involved.”
Sheldon Bean, Director of Beanstalk Telecom Ltd added: “We are really pleased to have raised such a fantastic amount but we couldn’t have done it without the help and generosity of all those involved in the event.”
