RBS Banks on Three Peaks Challenge Success

The seven strong team of Richard Aspinall, Matt Davies, Joe Riley, Robin Tait, Frank Palazzo, Chris Payne, David Tomkinson and Alan Bennett, set off for Scotland to take on Ben Nevis.  At 4.30pm they were at the base ready to climb 4,409 feet to reach the peak.  At 7.45pm they completed their ascent to discover fantastic views and that they had the mountain to themselves.

The team didn’t waste anytime and made it back to the mini bus to take on the second peak – Scafell Pike in Cumbria.  They began climbing at 4.30am with head torches helping to light the way.  With a strong wind blowing down the valleys, mutual support helped to get them to the top!  By 6.50am they had climbed the 3,209 feet stopping quickly for a photo at the top.

With gale force winds blowing, the team quickly made the descent to get on their way to the third and final peak – Snowdon in North Wales.   The tired team started their ascent of 3,560 foot Snowdon at 1.15pm determined to make it to the summit, which they did in just over 2 hours.

The weary walkers celebrated at the summit knowing that their tired and aching legs only had one last descent to make before they could sit down and relax.

Richard Aspinall, Director Branch Business Banking commented: “The completion of the three peaks challenge has certainly been character building for some of the team, one or two admitting they had never undertaken anything so physically challenging.  We can all take away a sense of achievement and satisfaction in completing the challenge and in doing so raising funds for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.”
